Ruzicka, Leopold

Ruzicka, Leopold (1887-1976), Croatian-born Swiss chemist and Nobel laureate, born in Vukovar. His research involved the synthesis and investigation of the chemical structure of naturally occurring substances, and he is known for his work on musk and sex hormones, particularly testosterone. With the German chemist Adolph Friedrich Johann Butenandt, he shared the 1939 Nobel Prize for Chemistry.
