Hodgkin, Dorothy Crowfoot

Hodgkin, Dorothy Crowfoot (1910-1994), British chemist and Nobel laureate, best known for her use of X-ray diffraction to study the structure of macromolecules. She was born in Cairo, and educated at Somerville College, University of Oxford. In 1960 she was named a research professor of the Royal Society. She was awarded the 1964 Nobel Prize for Chemistry for determining the structure of biochemical compounds essential in combating pernicious anaemia.
