Hermann Staudinger

The German chemist Hermann Staudinger conjectured that plastics were truly giant molecules. His subsequent efforts to prove this claim initiated an outburst of scientific investigation that resulted in major breakthroughs in the chemistry of plastics. he received the 1953 Nobel Prize for Chemistry.
