Flory, Paul John

Flory, Paul John (1910-1985), American chemist, born in Sterling, Illinois, and educated at Ohio State University. He was noted both for his basic research on polymers and other natural and synthetic macromolecules and for his development of several commercially successful polymers. Flory's work helped to clarify the relationships between the structures and the properties of these chemicals. He was awarded the 1974 Nobel Prize for Chemistry for his work.
