Bergius, Friedrich, German industrial chemist, he discover hydrogen is produced commercially by passing steam and water gas (a mixture consisting predominantly of hydrogen and carbon monoxide) over a catalyst at high temperatures. In 1931 he shared with Bosch, Carl the Nobel Prize for Chemistry for his research on high-pressure reactions.
