1483 Born into a peasant family in Eisleben on November 10.
1506 Becomes an Augustinian monk.
1507 Ordained as a priest.
1510 Travels to Rome and is appalled by its worldliness.
1512 Becomes Professor of Biblical Theology at Wittenberg University.
1517 Publishes his Ninety-Five Theses attacking papal indulgences.
1521 Condemned by Roman Curia and excommunicated. In April he is summoned before Charles V at the Diet of Worms and placed under the ban of the empire.
1521-1522 Concealed for his own safety at Wartburg Castle. Translates the New Testament from Greek into German.
1524-1526 Peasants' War - which he opposes.
1525 Marries Katharina von Bora, a former nun.
1529 Publishes the influential Kleiner Katechismus.
1532 Translates the Old Testament.
1546 Dies February 18 in Eisleben.
