Philip III (of France), called The Bold (1245-1285), king of France (1270-1285), the son of King Louis IX, born in Poissy, near Paris. A weak ruler, he was dominated at various times by his chamberlain, his wife, his mother, and especially his uncle Charles I of Anjou, king of Naples and Sicily. In 1285, the last year of his reign, Philip made an unsuccessful attempt to annex the kingdom of Aragon.
