Charles VIII (of Sweden), known as Karl Knutsson (c. 1408-1470), King of Sweden (1448-1457, 1464-1465, 1467-1470). He served as regent of Sweden from 1436 to 1440. An arbitrary ruler, Charles was an intermittent king, his reign marked by insurrection and his own flight to Germany in 1457, his temporary recovery of the sovereignty after the reign (1457-1464) of Christian I, King of Denmark and Norway, and his later recall to power in 1467.
