Zedillo Ponce de León, Ernesto

Zedillo Ponce de León, Ernesto (1952- ), Mexican economist and politician, elected to the presidency of Mexico for a six-year term in 1994. He was born and raised in the northern town of Mexicali on the United States border. Zedillo studied at Yale University on a Mexican government scholarship and graduated with a doctorate in economics. Subsequently, he worked in Mexico's Central Bank, gaining valuable experience in economic policy-making and management during the years after the Mexican debt crisis in 1982.
