Friedman, Milton (1912- ), American economist and Nobel laureate. Friedman was born in New York and educated at Rutgers University and the University of Chicago. He worked as an economist with various federal agencies in Washington, D.C., from 1935 to 1940 and from 1941 to 1943. In 1946 he joined the economics department at the University of Chicago.
